My fitness journey started out through sports. Since I was a kid, I have always been competitive, striving to be the best on the court and on the field. This is where fitness first started to come into play. I played mostly basketball growing up and I was always trying to find ways to be better than the average player. I wanted to stand out from the rest, so I started training. After hours of videos and research/training, I learned a lot about athletic conditioning at a young age. This type of training style helped me when I had to perform and compete.
What I found that helped me the most was to make really small goals. For example, a small goal I had was to grab a 10-foot rim. With that goal in mind, I did research and found out that plyometrics is a great way to increase my overall vertical. I designed a program for myself with the exercises that I enjoy doing and challenged myself throughout the program trying to beat certain times, reps or height of the boxes. Overtime, and with patience, I was able to pass milestones and sooner than later, I was not only able to grab the rim, but I was able to dunk the basketball. From then on, I look at every fitness goal I set for myself and my clients as a small stepping stone towards the big goals.
One question that I get asked often is, “How do you maintain a healthy lifestyle?” There is no one answer to sum this question up.
1. Make a Commitment
I will start off with commitment. You have to make a commitment; you need to be ready for change. No matter what emotions get in the way or what hard times you go through, you have to tell yourself no matter what you will succeed. If you’re not fully committed to the process you will not reach your goals. It’s that simple.
2. Find a Good Workout Routine
What I find that helps me maintain a healthy lifestyle is to find a good workout routine. Personally, I enjoy working out first thing in the morning because my mind is most clear at this time and I can focus more on what I’m doing in the gym. Find that routine and your body will start to crave going to the gym!
3. Surround Yourself with Positive Energy
Not all problems can be avoided but it helps to face such obstacles with an optimist outlook. Surround yourself with encouraging friends and people that will provide you with constructive criticism every once in a while to help you improve.
Maintaining a healthy lifestyle is not that difficult nor does it require a lot of work. Keep pushing through your goals, stay consistent and surround yourself with positive energy. These are my tips to help you maintain a healthy lifestyle.
